These past three years have been very tough economically for my father and me. I currently work three jobs -- an average of 84 hours per week -- to help pay the rent, save for college, and pay some of my father's medical fees (he is currently uninsured). Yet during these challenging times, I have witnessed the miracle of a loving and supportive family. That is why it is my goal to become successful, so in the future my two nephews will not have to worry about financing their post high-school education. This scholarship will place me one step closer to achieving that goal

Thank you so much for selecting me to receive this scholarship. Since I have not been able to work, it has been difficult financially for my family, I have two out of my three children in college along with myself and it has been much more difficult than I could have imagined. I am blessed by how the kids in the Grand Rapids Inner City Soccer Program have had a impact on my children. My children now realize there are kids in our own community that need help, and our blessings need to be used to help those kids.
I pray the education I receive from Cornerstone University will help me continue to grow this program.
Thank you again, and God Bless! Diane Parks

I believe to change one life is like changing a community. Changing a community can and will impact our world. To help someone other then myself, is my overall passion in life. I love to see others succeed and benefit. I really have a heart for people that feel as though life has let them down. I want to be the person that helps there miracle come true. I have been so blessed and I want to pass some of my blessings to others that are unfortunate. I believe that giving should come from the heart and I know that in order to be fulfilled, I have to do what my hurt desires. Give back to help others and volunteer my time to make it happen. S.E.T. Educational Fund thank you for your generous donation, the donors really do impact the lives of others. I'm just so happy that now I have help, so that I can receive knowledge to continue to learn how I can help others in the future. Again thank you S.E.T. Educational Fund for making this happen. Angela is a Elementary Education major at Michigan State (oof!), and despite losing the household income of her father due to a stroke, has found a way to finance her first two years. Her laundry list of community service landed her in the runner-up position for the second straight year. "As a teacher I will strive to inspire children to be honorable and caring citizens; through their generation, I will ultimately help to positively shape our future."

I am going to college and obtaining an education degree in early childhood because it has always been my dream to teach first grade. Though I changed my major several times, because coming from a family who lived paycheck to paycheck – when there were paychecks – I felt that I, the first in my family to go to college, needed to make more money than what the average teacher makes. I originally focused on a career in Forensic Psychology, but found that, though interesting, this field was not my passion. My passion was to teach young children how to write words and how to read their first sentences. I could not imagine living the rest of my life in a career that was not satisfying for me, so even though changing my majors meant I would follow a very different path, I embraced that challenge and haven’t looked back.
